Franciacorta in short

Franciacorta lies south of Lake Iseo and runs as far as Brescia. It is a landscape of vineyards and estates, not a single town, and it is not on Lake Como. You get here from Milan, Bergamo or Brescia in a day, or on a trip combined with Lake Iseo.

The wine road, the Strada del Franciacorta, is a network of places to visit. The consortium behind it offers a downloadable map and bookable offers from partner estates. There is no single paid route and no universal ticket, so you book each cellar yourself. This is an independent guide, not run by the consortium or any winery, and prices are in euros as listed in 2026.

Wine tastings and cellar visits

One estate as a price example, with bookable tour products.

Berlucchi, at Borgonato di Corte Franca, lists four visit products. Each one is a separate booking. Opening hours of the shop are not the same as tour times, so choose a tour and a date instead of turning up.

VisitLengthPrice in 2026Who can join
I Classici1.5 hours€33Adults only
I Preziosi1.5 hours€44Adults only
Gli Iconici1.5 hours€44Minors allowed
Berlucchi Experience2 hours€70Adults only

These are the prices per product as listed in 2026. I Classici includes a tasting. Do not work out a child price from an adult price. If a minor joins, Gli Iconici is the listed product that allows them.

How to book a visit

Other estates set their own rules.

Book a tour, not a walk-in

Choose the product, the date and the group size online or by contact with the estate. A wine shop being open does not mean a cellar tour is running.

Ask about age and reservation

Minimum age and reservation rules are set by each estate and by each tasting product. Ask before you bring children.

Check the price per product

A tasting is priced by what is poured and how long it takes. Compare the number of wines and the length of the visit, not only the price.

Plan the drive

If you drive yourself, agree who stays sober, or book a trip with a driver. Taxi and transfer prices vary, so ask before you rely on them.

Getting to Franciacorta

Car is the simplest way to reach individual estates.

By car

On the A4 motorway, use the exits Palazzolo, Rovato or Ospitaletto. On the A35, use Chiari, Rovato or Travagliato. From there, follow the signs to your estate.

By train

The consortium lists the Milan to Venice line, the Milan to Bergamo to Brescia line and the connections in the Brescia, Rovato, Iseo and Edolo corridor. That gets you to the area. It does not mean there is a direct link from every station to every winery, so plan the last kilometres.

Day trips from Milan →

From Lake Iseo

The rail route to Lake Iseo follows the Milan to Venice direction, with a change at Rovato or Brescia depending on the connection, and continues on the Brescia to Iseo to Edolo line. The wine area lies on the same corridor.

Lake Iseo and Monte Isola →

A day in Franciacorta

A simple order that fits the booking rules.

Book one cellar visit for the late morning and keep the afternoon open. A visit of 1.5 to 2 hours with a tasting is enough for one estate, and a second one the same day is a lot. If you stay overnight near Lake Iseo, you can add a ferry ride to Monte Isola on another day. If you start in Bergamo, plan transport both ways before you book a time. A tour from Bergamo or Milan with a driver removes the question of who drives.

Ask each estate about opening days, because the cellar visit is the part that needs a booking. Prices and products change, so check the current offer on the estate's own page.

Franciacorta: frequently asked questions

Where is Franciacorta?

It lies south of Lake Iseo and reaches as far as Brescia. It is not on Lake Como. The Strada del Franciacorta is the name of the wine road network through the area.

How much does a winery visit cost?

Berlucchi lists tasting visits from €33 for 1.5 hours to €70 for 2 hours in 2026. Other estates set their own prices and rules, so check each product.

Do I need to book a tasting?

Plan to. Cellar tours are bookable products, and the shop hours are not tour times. Rules differ between estates, so ask for yours.

Can children join a tasting?

It depends on the product. At Berlucchi, three of the four listed visits are for adults only, and Gli Iconici is open to minors. Ask before you book.

Can I reach Franciacorta without a car?

You can reach the area by train and by a tour with a driver. A direct link to each winery cannot be assumed, so plan the final stretch before you go.

Is this the website of the Franciacorta consortium?

No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the consortium, to any winery or to a tour operator.
