Cremona at a glance

Cremona is a city in Lombardy. Most visitors come for three things: the Museo del Violino, the cathedral and the Torrazzo, the bell tower that stands beside it. Together they fill a day.

This is an independent guide. It is not run by the city, the museum, the cathedral or a tour company. Prices are in euros, as listed in 2026, and they change. Opening hours are set by each operator, so check the day you plan to go.

A day in Cremona

One sequence that matches the opening hours.

Morning: cathedral and Torrazzo

The cathedral opens at 7:30 a.m., and the diocesan museums open at 10 a.m. Start with the cathedral and the combined Torrazzo ticket. The ticket covers the Museo Verticale in the tower, the baptistery and the diocesan museum. The diocesan museums close from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., so plan your lunch around that.

Afternoon: Museo del Violino

The museum opens at 11 a.m. from Tuesday to Friday and at 10 a.m. on weekends. If you want to hear an instrument, check the museum's calendar for an audition. It lasts about 30 minutes and costs €12.

Plan around Monday

The museum lists no regular Monday opening, and on Mondays a special €5 ticket covers the Torrazzo alone. The cathedral keeps shorter Monday hours. A Tuesday to Sunday visit gives you the full programme.

Families and reduced prices

Who pays less, or nothing, at each sight.

  • Museo del Violino: children under 11 enter free, except school trips. The reduced ticket is €11 for students up to 19, enrolled university students and visitors over 65. A visitor with a disability and a companion enter free.
  • Violin audition: children up to 10 pay €6 instead of €12. Check the calendar first, because the audition is an event with set dates.
  • Torrazzo and diocesan museum: accompanied children under 14 enter free, as do visitors with a disability and a companion.
  • Cathedral: being open for worship is not the same as being open for sightseeing. Services can change what you may visit, so ask at the entrance.

Tickets for the museum and the Torrazzo are separate products from separate operators. A museum ticket does not open the Torrazzo, and the combined Torrazzo ticket does not include the violin museum.

Getting there and combining Cremona

Check the timetable before you plan a single day.

By train

Regional trains are run by Trenord. A new fare table has applied since 1 September 2026, with a reference of €5.40 for 41 to 50 tariff kilometres in second class. Which class your journey falls in depends on the tariff distance. Look up the timetable and fare for your date, and check the return time before you decide how long to stay.

As part of a longer trip

Cremona can be combined with other Lombard cities. Mantua has the Palazzo Ducale and the Palazzo Te, and Bergamo has its upper town. The day trips page compares journey times and costs for all the main destinations.
